95 of Hilo, died peacefully at home on March 6, 2022. Born in Hilo, he retired after 22 years from Hilo High School as a biology and science teacher. Matthew was a U.S. Army Veteran and a respected member of the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church. Matthew was devoted to Anna, his beloved wife of 70 years, and to his family. He was an avid hobbyist and sports enthusiast. Matthew was preceded in death by his birth family and wife, Anna, (nee Ching) in April 2021. He is survived by Sharolyn (Tom) Parry of Brookfield, WI, Craig (Joanne) Chow of Hilo, Loriann (Peter) Bazan of Sonora, CA; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation only on Sunday, April 3, 2022 4-6 p.m., Dodo Mortuary, 199 Wainaku Street, Hilo. Private committal service Monday, April 4, 11 a.m., Homelani Memorial Park, 388 Ponahawai Street, Hilo.
