FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

DAVID L. KAWELO, SR.
DAVID L. KAWELO, SR.75, of Waianae, was born on April 27, 1946. He passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rochelle N. Kawelo, son's David Lukela (Kuuipo), Davin Koolau, and daughter Shantel Nohealani Philemina (Monica) and his 8 grand- children. Predeceased by his parents George K. Kawelo,Sr. and Philemina K. L. Kawelo, sisters Paige L. Barber, Georgette K Kawelo, and Obedine M.Villamor. Survived by brothers George K. Kawelo Jr. Eugene M.Kawelo, sisters Melmanette H. Worthington, Ursula M. Mikulenka and Janmar H. Gonzalez and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

David grew up in Waianae where he attended Waianae HS Class of 1965 and excelled at football, basketball, and tennis. Into Adulthood, David earned an associates degree from LCC, and then graduated from the Journeyman's Program with the Carpenters Union and entered the construction field. Here, he gained a well-respected reputation. Finishing his career of 25 years in the industry as a Superintendent building the Ihilani Hotel.

With his experience in the field David joined his brother Eugene in forming D&E Kawelo Construction in 1996. This is where the community got to know David on a personal level. Whether the job was big or small He treated every job the same, with integrity, and honesty. If he wasn't on the jobsite, you could find him in Las Vegas at the California Hotel. Enjoying the glittering lights of Fremont Experience or the excitement at the craps table or a good game of Poker at the Golden Nugget. He also enjoyed the little things, like sitting with his wife and watching the planes take off from Honolulu International airport. He loved trains, and old western movies.

He will be greatly missed but not forgotten as he leaves a piece of him throughout our islands with every build and repair, he was a part of. Forever loved, and Forever in our hearts. A service will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 630pm at Mililani Mortuary. Visitation preceding 530pm-630pm. A Celebration of Life will be held the following day on Saturday, April 23rd, 5pm-11pm at 85-1082 Kolealiilii Place, Waianae, HI 96792.
