John had a brilliant mind and was able to untangle puzzles and solve mechanical, structural and agricultural problems. His 40 year career in agro-industrial development, operations and consulting had him working all over the world. His work is published and he was awarded 3 patents for his inventions.

John was a fun-loving guy with an amusing sense of humor. He enjoyed organizing activities that got people together. He was actively involved in the creation of "Koloa Plantation Days", soliciting many sponsors as well as setting up a sugar museum in the plantation's round-house. After becoming interested in genealogy he helped trace "Herkes" throughout the world and put together a world-wide clan gathering in Scotland. John was a true gentleman and strove for excellence in whatever he did.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
