Vernon Hung Sun “Sunny” Ching
Vernon Hung Sun Vernon Hung Sun "Sunny" Ching, 87, of Aiea passed away peacefully on April 6, 2022. He was born and raised on Oahu, and dedicated his career as a structural engineer ensuring the safety of Hawaii's roads and highways.

His family includes wife Barbara Shin Ching; son Alan (decreased), daughter Jessica, and son Kelly (Junko Horiguchi); and 2 grand- daughters, Sunny and Michi.

He served in the Army and Army Reserves for 16 years and lived in Seattle/Ft. Lewis for several years. He was a lifelong tennis player, a 100+ gallon blood donor, and a local hospital volunteer for over 20 years. He lived/worked in Thailand for a year, traveled to 40 countries, and enjoyed meeting and making friends around the world. He was always good-natured and willing to help others.

Punchbowl Cemetery of the Pacific is the site of burial services for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life for all family, friends, and co-workers will be announced at a later date this year.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make a donation to the Hawaii ARC (https://thearc.org/chapter/the-arc-in-hawaii/), or an organization of your choice, in honor of son Alan.
