FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

CHARLES “CHUCK/DOC” BURROWS
CHARLES Charles Peapea Makawalu Kekuewa Burrows, 88, formerly of Kaneohe, passed away peacefully at home in Kansas surrounded by ohana on April 30, 2022. Born in Honolulu to David Napihe and Harriet Pauole Burrows, his early years were spent hanai to grandparents in Kailua. Native Hawaiian values and experiences exploring nature nurtured his passion to "Aloha and Malama the Aina."
A 1951 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, he served in U.S. Coast Guard, earned his EdD, and taught science in Oregon followed by 35 years at his alma mater. "Doc" conducted numerous field studies throughout the islands and sites elsewhere that instilled in students the awareness of environment and conservation needs with many pursuing careers in related fields. By connecting students to exciting and meaningful 'real world' activities, an administrator shared that Chuck expressed his scientific knowledge and skills through his commitment to the world around him.
He served on executive boards and started or participated in several organizations focused upon protecting and conserving Hawaii`s ecosystems. Through partnerships with government agencies, significant strides have been made, e.g., Kahoolawe, KawaiNui Marsh, Ulupo Heiau. When recognized for all his volunteer services, he continually accepted the awards on behalf of all participants.
Survived by Clara Berard, loving wife of 66 years, 2 children-David (Shirley) Burrows (predeceased), Kathryn (Allen) Benjamin and 6 grandchildren-Alexander (Aurelia) Hayes, Christine Hayes, Mahalya Benjamin, and Emma, Sophia and Charles Burrows - always ready to join "Papa" in living his passion.
Celebration of Chuck's life will be held on June 18 at 10:00 am on Zoom. Log-in information can be found at churchofthecrossroadshawaii.org.
Memorial contributions may be made online to scholarships in his honor at Pauahi Foundation and Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club, Church of the Crossroads/PJSC ministry or one of your choice.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
