Gareth was born on August 25, 1963, was raised in Kalihi, and a graduate of Farrington High School Class of 1981. He received an associate degree in Culinary Arts at Kapiolani Community College. He was an electrician and gained his experience from many private companies.
As member of the AZA Yogi Doshi Kai, he was recognized and awarded the 2018 Uchinanchu of the Year. He loved bowling, skiing, golfing, traveling, and took up fishing with his sons. He shared his love of sports with his children and volunteered as a coach for their soccer teams. He knew nothing about soccer at the time but broadened his knowledge of the game by watching professional soccer and reading about the sport. As his children moved to competitive soccer, he volunteered to be an assistant coach. His last soccer season was as head coach for the Junior Varsity Soccer Team at Saint Louis School.
Nappy was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. Half of his wardrobe is the Broncos attire. His children were born to love the Broncos too. Nappy is loved by many for his warmth, positive outlook, and his enthusiasm to have a good time. He was a fun-loving guy with an amusing sense of humor. He would always brighten the room with his presence and contagious smile and considered everyone a part of his family. Nappy always said "God is good all the time - All the time God is good."
Gareth "Nappy" is survived by his wife, Lianna; daughter, Keani; sons, Garyn and Lason; parents, Gary "Nappy" and Janice Napuunoa; sister, Jamie Napuunoa-Beppu; fur babies Blue and Talula, fur nieces LeiHoku and Mahina-Hoku; In-laws, uncles, aunties, cousins, and extended families. Predeceased by John Hickey, Colleen & Carlton Shigetomi, and Glenn Beppu.
