FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Stewart James Robertson Anderson
Stewart James Robertson Anderson We are sad to announce the passing of Stewart James Robertson Anderson. After suffering a stroke several years ago, he grew increasingly weak. He died peacefully in his sleep on May, 28th 2022, while in a care home in Honolulu. He was 92, and was the last to pass away of the 6 brothers and their wives.
Stewart is survived by his wife and dear partner of 45 years, Joan, with whom he lived in their Waikiki condominium for their entire married life; his children: Stewart (Annie), Mary, Helen (Rod), and step-son Jonn; his grandchildren: Jessica, Stephen, Sarah, Robyn, Stanley, Fraser and Amos; and his great grandchildren: Sofia, Phoenix, Iona and Austin. His beloved grandson, John, passed away when he was 11.
Stewart was born in Dalmellington, Scotland on October 22, 1929. He attended the prestigious Ayr Academy Secondary School where he was a gifted academic student and artist (and Captain of the Rugby Team!). He received the honor of top student (valedictorian) in his senior year. Upon leaving school, he served in the Royal Air Force in the Medics in WWII in Germany – and attended art school there where he won several awards for his paintings. He returned to Scotland where he qualified as a Land Surveyor at the top of his class nationally, and made it his career for 45 years. While he was a very successful surveyor and topographer, he continued to paint, draw and sculpt from inspiration he found in the many places he had lived – Scotland, British Columbia, Seattle, and Honolulu. His art now adorns the homes of his children and friends. In the last 20 years of his life he discovered an interest and ability in narrative poetry and wrote dozens of poignant, complex and entertaining poems from anecdotes of his and his family members' lives. Several of his literary works have been published in a Scottish journal.
Stewart made an impression on everyone he met – his renowned sense of humor was celebrated by all. He loved to laugh and greatly enjoyed creative wit, repartee and good company. His golfing group of about 50 friends in Hawaii (Da Kine Bruddah Gangsome) was a great source of social connection for him for about 35 years before his illness prevented him from playing (he had attained an 11 handicap – an achievement he was very proud of).

Stewart will be dearly missed by his large extended family and friends across the continents.
