Edythe Hirao passed away peacefully at home in Manoa on May 13, 2022 at the age of 97. Born in Honolulu on August 06, 1924 to Jiro and Orime Tamamoto and raised in Manoa. Predeceased by spouse Thomas Shiro Hirao and survived by daughters Suzanne Armstrong (Frank), Linda, son David (Mona); grandchildren Gavin Yamanaka, Gina Sakai-Nagata (Ryan), Emily Hirao (Dali); great- grandchildren Benjamin Sakai, Xander Sakai, Reiko Nagata. Edythe helped her widowed mom Orime for many years in the flower business and also worked diligently at the Nisshodo mochi store run by her late husband's family. Her many hobbies included flower arrangement, gardening, reading weekly magazines, and watching the popular Wheel of Fortune tv game show. Edythe lived a long and fruitful life. She will be truly missed by many family members, neighbors, and friends. The immediate family would like to express sincere appreciation to the numerous workers at Islands Hospice for taking care of our mom both physically and spiritually during the long period of time when she was resting at home before she passed away.
