Kazuyoshi Hayashida
Kazuyoshi HayashidaKazuyoshi Hayashida, 88, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2022. Born and raised in Hilo, he was a 1951 graduate of Hilo High School. He earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Hawaii in 1956 and led a life of public service with the US Army Corps of Engineering, the State of Hawaii and the City and County of Honolulu. He is most fondly remembered as the "Water Sheriff," a nickname given to him by Perry and Price as a regular guest on their radio broadcast, and for his 16 years as the Manager and Chief Engineer of the Board of Water Supply. His years of dedicated leadership and service to the state were recognized as he was the recipient of the Hawaii Engineer of the Year, George Warren Fuller Awardee, and the National Public Work Leader of the Year.

Kazu is lovingly remembered by his children for his kind heart, wise words, and faithful love. He is survived by his children, Ken (Donna) Hayashida, Kris (Randy) Wong, Sandy (Robert) Joy, stepson Gordon (Janel) Ring, 7 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Edean Hayashida.
