On December 7, 1941, Gladys was at Honolulu Airport with her family when Pearl Harbor and neighboring airfields were attacked. As enemy planes strafed the airport, she and her family fled to their car and escaped safely home.
Her favorite memories of the dark war years that followed were catching the bus with her friends to the Naval Air Station at Kaneohe where the Officers Club hosted dances. There she met and fell in love with a handsome young Navy Pilot Lt. Donavon E. Mosley. They were married June 10, 1944 and had two daughters, Diane and Sharon.
Gladys worked in the travel industry, both as a travel agent and tour escort. Many islanders, especially those wishing to explore their Portuguese heritage, traveled with her on her annual tour to Portugal, the Azores and Madeira. Her other most popular tours included those to the East Coast and to Australia and New Zealand. After a long career in travel, Gladys retired from Royal Adventure Travel at age 75.
In 1980, Gladys and Don were happy to finally welcome a son to their family when Sharon married David Dohms of Iowa. Don passed away the following year and is buried at the Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific. Gladys will be buried with Don at Punchbowl at 1:00pm following a Mass on July 7, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Kailua where they were parishioners.
Gladys is survived by daughter Diane Mosley who moved back to the family home to care for her during the years following the outbreak of Covid. Gladys is also survived by daughter Sharon and son-in-law David Dohms who now reside in Idaho and by niece April Browne of Long Beach, California. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital in her memory.
