FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ROBERT L. POPP
ROBERT L. POPPA Commander in the US Navy, passed away on April 4th, 2022 at the age of 82 at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Robert (Bob) was born December 23, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Fordham University, graduating in 1961, and was then commissioned into the US Navy.
Bob met his beautiful wife, Ulla Wedberg, from Eslov, Sweden in Nice, France in 1964 while deployed on the USS Springfield. He then bravely served his country in Vietnam from 1968-1969. From 1972 to 1976, he was stationed in London, England. During his time there he received his MA at the University of Southern California. The Navy also deployed Bob to the Southern parts of France on a hardship tour as well as to the Republic of Vietnam where he was stationed for 361 days.
Bob and his family moved to Kailua, Hawai'i in 1979 where he spent 2 tours at CINCPAC at Camp Smith and a tour at CINCPACFLT. He retired in 1988 after proudly serving 27 years in the United States Navy.
Bob had a love for teaching and was on the Hawai'i Pacific University faculty, Emeritus from 1990-2017. Bob and Ulla had a love for travel, including many trips to Sweden, England, and France. Bob also ran several Honolulu Marathons and was very active in Rotary International, attending meetings around the world.
Bob is survived by his son John S. Popp, daughter Kristina Green, and granddaughters Alyssa Green and Nicole Green. He loved his family deeply, served his country proudly, and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held on July 29, 2022, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl at 2:00 PM. Celebration of life will be on July, 30th at the Hale Kai Surf + Racquet Club at 824 N. Kalaheo Avenue in Kailua, Hawai'i at 5:00 PM. Those who knew him are welcome to join.
