FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Sharon Tomoe Schneider
Sharon passed away on June 20, 2022, after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Honolulu on February 12, 1951 to Harry and Laura Yokogawa, she is survived by her husband, Niklas, and sister, Jo Ann Yokogawa.

Sharon attended Roosevelt High School and graduated from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa with a degree in mathematics. She worked as a scientific programmer at UH Manoa and, after moving to California, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla. Upon returning to Honolulu, Sharon immersed herself in her Kaimuki neighborhood. A member and chair of the neighborhood board, a founding member of Envision Kaimuki, and an active participant and board member of several local organizations, she worked tirelessly with the community to improve her neighborhood, supporting businesses, adding trees and parklets for everyone to enjoy.

Sharon's lifelong passion was ballet, a gift her mother gave to her as a child. She was a patron of the arts, surfed, sailed, hiked, camped, traveled the world, and lived a life filled with family and a diverse universe of friends. Sharon fused the aloha spirit with an open, cosmopolitan sensibility that made everyone feel welcome. She will be remembered for her immense kindness, warmth, generosity, loyalty, friendship, unconditional acceptance, and sharp intellect, which remained with her until the end.

A service and celebration of Sharon's life will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu starting at 4pm on July 20, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Memory of Sharon Schneider to Diamond Head Theatre https://www.diamondheadtheatre.com/, (808) 733-0277 x306, or Trees for Honolulu's Future https://www.treesforhonolulu.org/.
