Betty was a retired school teacher for the DOE at Waipahu Elementary School. Betty had a great passion for teaching and taught several different grades throughout her career. She truly enjoyed seeing the "light go on" in her student's eyes when giving lessons and especially loved providing different cultural experiences to her students. For many years the 4th Grade Luaus at Waipahu Elementary School were quite famous as well as the 5th Grade Pow Wows.
Post retirement, Betty loved to play golf with the Ke Anuenue Women's Golf Club, travel the world, and to visit her daughters and grandsons on the mainland. She also played mahjong a few times a month with various friends, loved watching her K Dramas, and going to Bible Study fellowship. As well as getting together with her Aiea school friends, and attending her WHS Class of '54 Reunions in Las Vegas. Ever the teacher, Betty also volunteered at Alvah Scott Elementary School to mentor and tutor. Later in life she also returned to the Methodist church and made many new and cherished friends.
She is preceded in death by son, Marc Hashimoto; parents Ichizo and Akie Yamamoto; brothers, Yuki, Kazuo, George, Takeo, Tadao, and Masao. Survived by brother Samuel (Barbara) Yamamoto, children Melvin Hashimoto, Jr., Lynne (James) Campbell, Joni Hashimoto, Eric Hashimoto, Sharilyn (Christopher Podlesnik) Hashimoto, grandchildren, Erica (Isaiah) Wilson, Joseph (Melissa) Campbell, Jameson Campbell, great-grandchildren, Ashana Martinez, Noah Wilson, numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and extended Ohana.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, Visitation at 9:00am, service at 10:00am, Aiea United Methodist Church, 99-101 Laulima Street. Aiea, HI 96701. The family requests lei or small floral bouquets/arrangements only.
