We celebrate the remarkable life of Yuriko Furubayashi, age 95, whose journey began on January 20, 1927, and came to a peaceful end on April 1, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Yuriko was born in Paumalu, Oahu and raised in Kahuku until the age of 10, at which time she was hanaied by her Aunt and Uncle Sawano, and taken to live in Hiroshima, Japan. She was educated there, and survived the horrors of the nuclear bomb at the age of 17. After returning to Hawaii, Yuriko married Kenji, raised four children, and founded Craig's Bakery, a business that served the Kailua community for over 50 years. In addition to managing the Bakery, Yuriko successfully broke barriers in the real estate world with her friend and business partner, Irene Kanetake. Yuriko and Kenji were involved in their community, and active members of the Mid-Pacific Country Club. Yuriko was charismatic, generous, business-minded and quite a raconteur. She loved family parties, golf, Mahjong, an occasional gin & tonic, and a competitive round of Blackjack. Much of her later years were spent caring for her property in Maunawili, the home that she and Kenji spent a lifetime shaping into their version of paradise. On behalf of the entire Furubayashi family, we ould like to thank the Kailua community for it's decades of support for Craig's Bakery. We would also like to thank all of the family and friends who brought such joy to Yuriko over years. Mrs. Furubayashi is survived by her children Craig (Uni), Myles (Clara), Hugh (Bethany), and Candace (Mike) McCartney; grandchildren Jill, Jade, Reid, and Lauren; step-grandchildren Reginald, Bricen, and Jaren; and great-grandchildren Elle, and Indi; sister Michiko Tsukamoto, and sisters-in-law Amy Nishimura, Lillian Asayama, Jane Ishimaru, and Lucy Staruszkiewiez.
