Betty Mente Toyama
A former Honolulu resident, Betty passed away at age 97 from Covid complications on October 23, 2021 at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. She was a responsible oldest daughter, born and raised in Honolulu, of issei parents originally from Hiroshima, Japan who emigrated in the early 1900s to work on the Hawaii plantations. Betty was a traditional, moral, hard working Christian, devoted wife and good mother of 3 children: Val, JoAnn and Thomas Jr. Her interests included playing volleyball, sewing clothes, doing ikebana, walking for exercise, reading magazines, watching football on TV, and playing ball catch with her son Jr. She worked at Loves, ABC and Holiday Mart bakeries and at Gibson store in Honolulu. She is survived by her sister Charlotte Uyeunten, her daughter JoAnn Timmons, son Thomas Toyama, Jr., grand- daughter Angela Yamamoto, and great-grandson Ronny Transfiguracion. Services are on 7/30/22 Saturday at Hosoi Mortuary 8:30AM-9:15AM Prayer Service, 9:30AM-11:00AM Life Celebration. Followed by Burial/ Committal at Nuuanu Memorial Park Cemetery Mente grave 12:50PM-1:20PM same day.
