Hilda was born on June 20, 1930 in Honolulu. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, attended the University of Hawaii and University of Minnesota. Hilda met her husband Roy while teaching on Kauai, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
Hilda brought the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics school to Hawaii, teaching countless students the magic of speed reading. She was ahead of her time, building a successful business and being a loving working mom. She and her husband Roy established the Roy and Hilda Takeyama Foundation in 1999 to support education.
She was an avid golfer, traveler, a wonderful cook and was always impeccably dressed.
Her family will fondly remember the weekly feasts at her house and her kind and loving attention to her grandchildren.
Hilda was pre-deceased by her husband Roy Takeyama and is survived by daughter Jan Sullivan (Patrick), son David Takeyama (Melissa), grandchildren Matthew Sullivan (Tannis), Tarah Suiter (Matt), Ethan Takeyama and Noa Takeyama.
The family will be holding a private service, in accordance with her wishes.
