FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Ruth Eleanor Shimooka
Age 92, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 2, 2022, while residing at The Plaza Moanalua. Born in Honomu, Hawaii, to Jules and Annie Moniz, Ruth attended Hakalau School and later graduated as a member of the class of 1948 Hilo High School. She actively participated in many reunions of both schools, and remained in contact with classmates over the years. Ruth married Raymond Shimooka in 1951, and the couple lived abroad at various Army bases during Raymond's 20-year military service. Ruth worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service for more than 36 years, serving in such capacities as retailer, buyer, supervisor, and support staff in stores around the country. Her final employment stop was the AAFES headquarters on Ala Moana Blvd. In retirement, Ruth and Ray traveled the world jetting off to multiple continents, and also sailing the seas as cruises became their favorite mode of travel.
Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who worked diligently on multiple family reunions because she believed love of family was a most important value.
Ruth is preceded in death by husband Raymond. She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Shimooka (wife Susan) and Russell Shimooka (wife Connie); four grandchildren: Tara Shimooka, Summit Shimooka, Sierra Shimooka, and Jade Shimooka.
