FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Allan Keolaokaaina Kunewa Sr.
Allan Keolaokaaina Kunewa Sr.Beloved Father, Gramps and Papa Nui passed away on February 10, 2022 at Straub Medical Center in Honolulu at the age of 95.

Allan was born on September 27,1926 in Wailuku, Maui to Joseph Hewahewa and Mary Kunewa. He grew up on the shores of Kahului Bay and graduated from Saint Anthony's School on Maui. He joined the Army shortly after graduation and would serve for 23 years with high commendation. During this time, he would meet the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Blossom Joshua Kunewa. Together with their children, his military career would take them to Frankfurt, Germany and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Allan retired from the Army in 1968 with the rank of Master Sergeant. They returned to Honolulu where he would have a 10-year career with the United States Postal Service at the Main Annex.

Athletic throughout his life, his favorite sport was Track & Field and he excelled at Shot Put and Discus while in school. Allan would go on to become an accomplished tennis player, playing into his 80's with many accolades along the way; including being consistently ranked amongst the top contenders in Hawaii, in every age bracket that he competed in. One of his proudest tennis accomplishments was representing the United States in the World Senior Tennis Tournament that took place in Japan in 1999. Allan and his doubles partner won second place for the 70-year-old bracket.

His family will ever remember him as the quiet strength that preferred to be in the background. With him, they knew that no matter what happened in life, everything was going to be okay. He was thoughtful in conversation, wickedly funny, gracious, and always humble. He was astute in his business dealings; Integrity and Ethics were the principles from which he lived. He was an amazing piano player but would never call himself a musician. He loved playing both Hawaiian and Jazz standards. His children will tell you that the greatest gift and example that he left them was how he loved their mother; Respect, Trust and Love was ever present, and he always looked at her like a teenager with a crush on the popular girl.

Allan was preceded in death by his wife, Blossom Kealiiaukai Joshua Kunewa, and their daughter Beverly "Cookie" Maldonado (Reginald). Allan is survived by his son Allan Kunewa Jr. (Laura); Daughters, Alohalani Jones, Barbara "Candy" Seleni, Rose-Mary "Michelle/Shelly" Randazzo, and many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren that simply loved and adored him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Mary, Star of the Sea Church. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Eulogy and Mass at 10:45 a.m. Reception to follow
