Edward Chock Jim
Edward Chock JimEdward "Ed" Chock Jim, 78, passed away in his hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 6, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was the eldest son of Edward Koon Chun Jim and Beatrice Sau Yick Yuen. Ed graduated from Farrington High School and earned a Bachelor and Master of Education degrees from the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. Ed's dedication to students and education was evident through his various roles in his professional career. Ed was an elementary school teacher at Nu`uanu and Palisades elementary schools, served as Vice Principal at Wheeler Elementary School, and Principal at Lana`i High and Elementary, Keolu, Ma`ili, and Lunalilo elementary schools and Moanalua High School. He also worked for the Hawai`i State Department of Education as a Personnel Specialist, Accounting Operation Specialist, and a Budget Specialist. After retiring, he was called upon to serve as the School Business Manager at Castle High School and then became the Educational Specialist overseeing the Class Size Reduction Program, a federal grant to improve student achievement in beginning reading that continues to be an ongoing endeavor. He was also a financial advisor for Inouye and Associates.

Ed proudly served in the military and received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, One Oversea Bar, and a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer, a Tai Chi practitioner, and a long-time booster of the Moanalua High School Music Department. Ed touched the lives of many with his selfless and generous spirit. He was a true leader and managed with professionalism, integrity, and compassion. Perhaps his greatest role was that of a devoted family man.

He is survived by his beloved wife Janet Hieda Jim, sons Ian (Lori) Jim and Casey Jim, brother Patrick (Beryl) Jim, sisters Sandra (Owen) Kirschner and Janice [Dale (deceased)] Ishiara, 4 grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 6 nephews.

Memorial services will be held on August 11, 2022, at Nu`uanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. 5:00 p.m. visitation, 6:00 p.m. service. For the safety of all, masks are required. The service will be live streamed, the link is on the mortuary's website (www.nmplimited.com). There you can also post special memories, photos, tributes, and messages of condolences in honor of Ed Jim. Interment with military honors will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl the following day.
