Steven Brian Shibuya
77, of Honolulu, Hawai'i, passed away at home on August 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. Steve graduated as a Son of 'Iolani at 'Iolani School in 1962 and went on to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he was a 2 year letterman on the football team. Steve then transferred back home to attend and graduate from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa where he also was a 2 year letterman on the school's football team. Steve was a dedicated Counselor and Teacher at Waipahu High School where he coached football and golf. Upon retiring, Steve was an avid golfer where he was a regular at Ted Makalena Golf Course and Ala Wai Golf Course. Steve enjoyed most of his retirement traveling with his beloved wife and travel partner, Faith. A few of their travel destinations included China and South Korea with his favorites being various areas and regions in Japan, San Diego, and Las Vegas. Steve was a proud and loving grandpa to a set of triplets. Always a teacher and counselor to the end, Steve will always be remembered for being wise, soft spoken, and good natured.
Steve is survived by his wife Faith; daughter Kristine Shibuya Nakaoka; son John; grandchildren Scott, Michael and Taylor Nakaoka; sister Susan (Fumio) Omura; brother Randy (Joanie) Shibuya; nieces Alison (Omura) Richardson and Keari Shibuya; and nephew Casey Shibuya.
Private Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
