FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

JAMES “JIMMY” KATSUHIDE ASATO
JAMES 94, passed away on May 11, 2022. He was born in Makawao, Maui and moved to Oahu at a young age. Football was his passion, first as a player in high school and later as a running back at the University of Hawaii. After completing graduate school in Illinois, Jimmy returned to the UH campus as a faculty member in the HPER department. In addition to his teaching duties, he also served as a University of Hawaii assistant football coach for 8 years (1952 - 1959) and 3 years as the head football coach (1961-1963). He retired in 1989 after being associated with the University of Hawaii for 40+ years. Prior to his retirement, he was inducted into the University of Hawaii's Sports Hall of Honor for his contributions to the UH football program.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Yoshiko Asato. He is survived by son Jay (Haunani) Asato, daughter Cathy Chow, three grandchildren, 3 great-, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Kalihi Union Church. Visitation 3:00 pm and Services at 4:00 pm.
