FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Virginia Helen Char Wong
Virginia Helen Char WongAge 94, of Honolulu, passed away on June 1, 2022. Born on April 17, 1928 to Helen Mow and Yew Char, she was predeceased by her parents, brothers Washington and Lincoln and sister Josephine Chan, and by her husband, Henry "Loppy" Chee Chong Wong.

Virginia was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School and Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. She worked as a secretary for the Delinquent Tax Bureau and Dole Pineapple before becoming a travel agent in her father's business Char Tour & Travel Service, Inc., in 1958. Over the years, Virginia enjoyed escorting people all over the world though her favorite destination was always Las Vegas. For many years Char Tour conducted tours to Las Vegas twice a week. It was the Yew Char family who gifted California Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with the life-sized buddha that stands to this day in the lobby. Virginia and the California Hotel also hosted many Roosevelt High School class reunions.

Virginia, Virgie, Mom, Popo, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunty was a giving and generous matriarch who loved being with her family and always made her family a priority. She loved organizing family vacations and parties and she attended as many of the concerts, recitals, competitions and graduations of her children and grand- children as possible, even when it meant traveling across the country. She is survived by daughter, Paulette (John) Wilbur of Gurnee, IL, sons Weylen (Ong) Wong, Corey (Yukie) Wong, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
