Hajime Nakasone
90, of Honolulu, passed peacefully at home on August 8, 2022. Born in Kekaha, Kaua'i on May 28, 1932, Hajime graduated from Farrington High School, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and completed training at the National Trade School. In 1962, he began his 34-year career at the Dole Cannery Plant in Iwilei, where he worked as a tool and diemaker, supervisor, and rose to become the superintendent who oversaw the closing of the plant in 1996. He also assisted in running the family florist, Flower Fair, from 1985 to 2004. He was an active member and past president of his ancestral Okinawan village club, Yagaji Doshi Kai, and a lifelong supporter of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association. Preceded in death by parents Mansuke and Kameko, sisters Yuriko Miyashiro and Yoneko Miyahira, he is survived by Chieko, his wife of 53 years, and siblings Toyoko Pasoquen, Robert (Becky), Ella Asato, Ralph, Glenn (Sharon), and Dean (Myrna). Beloved father to Karen (Roman Amaguin) and Nancy (Ted) Tolentino, and beloved "Ojichan" to grandchildren Abby and Ellie.
