After retiring, she earned an AA degree in music from Leeward Community College, and an instructor certificate for Taisho-koto from Society of Taisho-koto (DOE, Japan). She also participated in many harmonica group recitals. Her kindness toward others and wanting to give back to the community (e.g. volunteering at Waipahu's Plantation Village) was rooted in her fervent beliefs in the teachings of Shinnyo-En Buddhism.
She was predeceased by her spouse of 72 years, Mitsuo Oshiro and son Brian Oshiro. She is survived by her son Vernon Oshiro; daughter Deborah Dwyer-Oshiro; 5 grandchildren; her brother George Nakamura; and her sister Sueko Gushiken.
The funeral will be private. However, anyone interested in attending the funeral service should contact Deborah Dwyer-Oshiro no later than September 7, 2022
