Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Henry Stuart Richmond II, passed away suddenly in Medford, Oregon, on August 2, 2022, surrounded by family. Henry was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to James Morgan Richmond and Emma Louise Judd on December 13, 1939. A Class of '57 Punahou graduate, he went on earn a bachelor's degree from Williams College plus a master's degree from UH East West Center. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Jerry, in 1961, the couple embarked on a lifetime of fulfilling careers, athletic accomplishments and outdoor adventures that would take them across the globe.
Henry served as Director of Development at Punahou although it was his Army stint at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA that led to a career in the US Foreign Service office from which he retired after several key postings in Hong Kong, Nagoya Japan, and Durban, South Africa. A lifelong athlete, Henry played football at Punahou, rugby at Williams, paddled for Healani and Outrigger canoe clubs, and completed countless endurance races, the Boston Marathon and the Kona Ironman Championships being standouts.
A self-described nonconformist, Henry will be remembered for his inquisitive intelligence, keen wit which made for engaging storytelling, a tenacious approach to any endeavor big or small, loyalty to friends old and new, young-at-heart interests that delighted his grandchildren, and an endearing habit of long goodbyes.
He will forever be loved by his wife Jerry, sister Anne, children James and Malia, adoring grandchildren Kanoa, Maile, Kupono and Mehana, as well as family and friends near and far.
