David was born in Honolulu, Hawai'i, on December 17, 1957, and attended Pearl City High School, where he held the position of pitcher on the baseball team. After graduating high school in 1975, David attended Leeward Community College. David's work experience spanned various industries, such as golf, food service, and commercial ahi fishing. Most recently, and up until his passing, David worked for the City & County of Honolulu's Golf Division at West Loch Golf Course. In David's personal life, he was a proud graduate of the Sand Island Substance Abuse Center. David's sobriety began on October 2, 1995, which he recognized as his "Second birthday." During his free time, David enjoyed fishing, sleeping, watching UFC, and going out to dinner with his children (in that order.) David lived each day by the Word of God and was always there for those in need. The love and devotion David expressed towards his family and friends will always be remembered.
Surrounded by his family, David passed away peacefully on August 22, 2022, at The Queen's Medical Center. David's legacy will continue to live on through his son, Dean Kira; his daughter, Diana Akamine; and ex-wife, Deidre Kira. To honor David's wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea.
Family, friends, and members of the community are welcome to join the Kira 'Ohana for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at O'ahu Mortuary, 2162 Nuuanu Ave., Honolulu.
