FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Kenneth Akira Ando
Kenneth Akira Ando88, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully in his home on September 1, 2022. He was the fourth child born to Shigeru and Kimie Ando on April 18, 1934 in Papaikou on the island of Hawai'i. He was raised in Hilo until his family was relocated to Jerome, Arkansas and Tule Lake, California before moving to Fukuoka and eventually Tokyo.

Kenneth served in the US Army in the Ryukyu Military District, Okinawa, from 1956 to 1960. He then worked at Fort Shafter and Pearl Harbor until his retirement in 1994.

Kenneth spent his later years travelling with family and friends throughout the US, Japan, and Europe; enjoying good food and drink; and taking care of his beloved dogs Roscoe, Max and Chewie.

Predeceased by brothers James, Charles, and George, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce; daughters Joni (Duilio) Ramallo and Kelley (Ryan) Abe; grandchildren Cobi, Lucas and Mika Toor, Kate and Owen Ramallo; and sisters Florence Umstead, Jane Namimoto, and Aiko Tanaka.

The family thanks the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who tended to him with professionalism and compassion.

Private services will be held.
