The family eventually moved from their home in Streator, Illinois to Denver, Colorado, where she graduated from West High School (1959) and attended the University of Colorado. She entered business life as a stockbroker, first in Denver, then in New York City, and back to Denver to continue her career. One evening on the only blind date of her life, she met her future husband, Bob Whiting, who was on sabbatical leave from an independent school in Honolulu, Hawaii. They married on December 27, 1972, and lived a very happy life together for 50 years.
In her 40 years in Honolulu, Marilyn settled estates at Hawaiian Trust Co., engaged in fundraising at United Way, sold high-end real estate as a realtor, and was the Director of Auditoriums for the City and County of Honolulu.
She loved fashion and design, fundraising for charities, and animals in general, kitties and puppies in particular. She especially loved her husband and her pets, loves that were returned in full measure.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church Chapel, 114 20th Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
