Sebbie was born and raised in Honomu, Hawaii. She was a woman dedicated to her Catholic faith with love and devotion for our heavenly Father and the Blessed Virgin Mary, her husband of 68 years, Daniel M. Akiu, Sr., her children Danette (Roy) Shishido, Daniel (Alison) M. Akiu, Jr., Alexine Akiu, Celeste Akiu, Roberta Akiu, her children through marriage Roy Shishido and Alison Akiu, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved her brother Lawrence (Vivian) Balberde, Diane Balberde, Stan Tokunaga, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
She worked hard and dedicated her life to helping others as a teacher, juvenile correction officer, school counselor, parish outreach coordinator, principal, and preschool director. She enjoyed music, singing, and dancing. May her love of the arts live on in those she touched while here on Earth. She lives on in each of us and her love surrounds us as our love surrounds her.
