She worked at Dole Cannery for 8 years, but left the job in 1971 to work as a 24-hour emergency shelter home and retired from the DSS Homefinding Unit and Child Protective Services. As a shelter home, she loved taking care of children especially babies, playing rummy with her friends and going to Las Vegas!
She is survived by children: Claudia (Wayne) Thompson, Sharlyn (Myron) Sato, Deborah (John) Leong, Valerie (Moses) Opunui, Rita (Russell) Luke, Stanford (Susan) and William "Boyse" (Patricia); siblings: Vivian Reynoso, Hazel Deponte, Caroline (Mark) Loos, John (Dorothy) Perry and Grand, Great and Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Predeceased by husband William, son Coulson, her parents, stepfather John Fernandez and brothers, James, Gilbert, Clarence Perry and John Fernandez III.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 7, 2022, at Borthwick Mortuary, Maunakea Street, Honolulu. Visitation 10:30 a.m.; Service: 11:30 a.m.; Burial 2:00 p.m. at Punchbowl.
