Beatrice Wong Lau was born on June 21, 1918 and died on August 17, 2022 at the age of 104. After graduating from McKinley high school, she attended the University of Hawaii. She earned a scholarship to McMurray College for Women where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree. She also graduated with a Bachelors of Education degree from National College of Education. She taught at Pahala elementary school on the Big Island until WWII started. When the Hawaii state legislature funded early education she was one of the first public kindergarten teachers in Honolulu. She taught at Kauluwela, Waialae, Manoa and Noelani elementary schools.
She is preceded by her husband Hing Chock Lau and grandson Dr. W. Travis Lau. She and her husband were active members of Community Church of Honolulu, China-US Friendship Association, and served in the Peace Corps in Belize. She is survived by her children Dr. William Lau, Nelson Lau, Betty Jane Lau (Scott) and her grandchildren Emily Lau, Ellen Scott, Taylor Lau. Private service held. Arrangements Provided By:
