Our mother passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022 at the age of 93. She was born in Ookala, Hawaii in 1929 to Tomojiro and Haruno Furukawa. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Sugiichi Hiraga and her five sisters and a younger brother. She lived in Lahaina, Maui and loved working as a waitress at the Pioneer Inn until her retirement. She also enjoyed traveling to the different Hongwanji Obon Festivals to dance. She moved to Honolulu in 2005 to be cared for by her sons and daughters. We all loved her and will remember her fondly in our hearts.She is survived by her two sons Gary (Juliet), Wade and her two daughters Gail Kakuda (Glenn) and Laura Kumai (Eric). She also leaves behind five Grandchildren, Ryan Kakuda (Debbie) Brett Kakuda (Marci), Curt and Taylor Hiraga as well as David Hiraga. She also has four Great-Grandchildren, Brendan, April Gail Kakuda and Shane and Jay Kakuda. She is survived by her brother Stanley Furukawa.
Funeral Services will be held on October 22, 2022, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and service to follow. Please adhere to safety measures for yourself and others by wearing a face mark.
