Age 95, born and raised in Kaalaea, Oahu, went home to the Lord on September 26, 2022. He is survived by sons: Duane Sr. (Valerie), Bernard "Bully" (Shona), Bernie Toi (Queenie), Frank Royos (Jessie), and Bruce "Kelii" (Mahealani) Lam Ho; daughter Bernadette "Berna" Lam Ho; hanai daughters Rita Adolpho Jaeger (Jim) and CeCe Powell; sister Inga Halas. Papa to 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Restituta (Lagapa); son Berdinius Jr. "Parche"; grandson Duane Jr.; sisters: Gladys Padeken, Elaine Flores, Emelia "Honey" Kailio, Ruth Santos, and Lillian "Lei" Lagapa, and brothers Wallace and John Lam Ho. Bernie attended Waiahole Elementary and Benjamin Parker until 9th grade when he left school to go into Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard's Apprentice Program. He left the Shipyard to serve a two-year tour in the Army, and following his discharge, returned to the Shipyard where he worked as a Machinist in Shops 31 and 38, and retired as a Planner and Estimator after 40 years. Bernie attended Waikane Congregational Church his entire life, was an active member throughout his adult life, and served as the Senior Deacon for 65+ years. He was also an active member, organizer and senior advisor of the Waiahole-Waikane Community Association (WWCA) for over 35 years, well into his 80's. An avid softball player and coach, in his retirement years he continued to play until age 85! He loved to play softball and Keno tournaments in Las Vegas. After his wife passed, he spent most of his time doing his chores during the day (working in his banana field and on his land, raising his cows…), and then could be found sitting at the beach across from his home with his Keystone Light, watching the airplanes take off and land at K-Bay, or down the road in Waiahole Valley with the Manalo's watching Wheel of Fortune. He really enjoyed being with family, friends and even tourists who stopped by the beach, as he loved to share his knowledge, and the history of Kaalaea with everyone.
Service, Saturday, October 29, 2022, Waikane Congregational Church. Visitation 9:00 a.m.; Service 10:30 a.m.;
Lunch immediatley following service. No flowers please.
Cremation to follow. Ashes to be scattered at a later date.
