ROSE MARTIN KING
Rose Martin King passed away on Feb. 2, 2022 in Santa Barbara, CA at age 87. She was born in Hinesville, GA on Nov. 14, 1934 and spent her early years in the South. She graduated from the Bradwell Institute in 1951 and then Columbia College in South Carolina at age 20 with a Speech and Creative Writing degree. She worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines and then moved to New Orleans where she worked at WDSU Radio Station and met Phil Norris. They married in Warner Robbins, GA in 1957, and soon moved to Honolulu, HI where Phil was stationed as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. marines at Kaneohe Air Base. Three children; Ashley, Susan and Blair soon followed. Rose was active in the Junior League and travelled the islands with the Children's Theatre Troupe as well as being ever present for her children. Phil and Rose parted ways quite amicably in 1974 and Rose married John Langenheim in 1976 adding his children, Bill and Jane, to the family. Rose and John lived and travelled with Susan and Blair on a refurbished Dutch barge for over a year in the canals of Europe before returning to Sarasota, Florida where they spent several years enjoying life on the water. The following years saw Rose living on Bainbridge Island, Washington and then in a log cabin on Bridger Creek just outside of Bozeman, Montana. This was her favorite place on earth and was where she became the beloved "Rosie" to all her grandchildren. She and her husband, Wally King, who she married in 1993, hosted many friends and family over the years at the cabin. After the passing of Wally in 2011, she moved back to Hawaii and was able to spend extended time with her daughter Ashley and son Blair in New Zealand before moving to Santa Barbara to be near her daughter Susan. Rose had many jobs over the years, but her foremost role was as an amazing mother, hilarious, loving and entertaining grandmother and a force to be reckoned with, never to be forgotten. She is survived by her three children, Ashley Coats (Guy), Susan Bradford (Paul) and Blair Norris (Kim), her brother Art Cornell, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
