Rose Sumiko Stewart
91, passed away on September 14 under the excellent care of Island Hospice. Rose was born in the Waialae Kahala area when it was all farm land. She was the daughter of Kaichi and Kiyono Wada and the only girl with nine brothers. After attending Kaimuki High School she enrolled in The Queen's Hospital School of Nursing (class of '51). Besides working at Queen's, Rose worked in hospitals in Honokaa, San Francisco, Chicago, and New Yory city. She met her husband in 1960 when she was a nurse in the Queen's Hospital Out Patient Department and he was an intern. Later in life she worked in the Infection Control department at Queen's and in her husband's medical office.
Rose is survived by her husband Dr. James Stewart, three daughters, Lorene Amy Jervik (Jeffrey), Ann Kiyono Franzmann, Jean Sumiko Riehl Doyle (Michael), eight living grandchildren and one wonderful boy who passed before his time.
She was the sunshine of our family and will be dearly missed.
Funeral Service at 4:00 PM, visitation 3:00 PM, on Sunday November 13, 2022 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Masks required.
