FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

HANG HIN LEE LAU
HANG HIN LEE LAUA wonderful mom, mother-in-law, Popo, and friend, Hang Hin Lee Lau, aka Mrs. Hoy Lau, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2022 at the age of 90. She was born on August 27, 1932 in Canton, China to Wai Bun Lee and Wai Ching Lau Lee. Mom attended high school, which was rare for women of that time. She immigrated to Hawaii in 1950 with her late husband Hoy Lau, and raised a family of seven children in Kaimuki. She was the proprietor of Lau Market, a grocery store, located on the corner of 8th and Waialae. You would regularly see her there with her husband greeting all their customers.

After retiring at the young age of 45, Mom focused on her sewing and cooking talents. She sewed many Narcissus Queen Pageant cheong sams, as well as Waikiki Lau Yee Chai's uniforms. While being the primary caregiver for our dad, she continued to care for her children and grandchildren. She was truly a super woman, famously cooked many nine course dinners, wrote beautiful Chinese calligraphy at Wah Kong Temple, Macy's, Nordstrom, Saks 5th Avenue, and Ala Moana Hotel, and created many beautiful Chinese crafts for various Chinese festival days. Well known for her jin dui with homemade delicious pork filling, Mom would happily make hundreds of these delicacies for family, friends, neighbors, and all her children's friends during Chinese New Year. Everyone would look forward to her perfectly round, crispy treats. Although she eventually stopped making them, to this day, people still talk about how much they enjoyed her jin dui, often saying it was the "best in all of Honolulu." She loved travelling home to China and Hong Kong, going on cruises, and of course gambling in Vegas.

She is survived by her children, Jadine, Owen, Eugene, Karen (Mark Matsunaga), Joanna (Dane Yamasaki), Danny, and Aileen (Rodney Chang); seven grandchildren, Jordan Yamasaki, Julia Matsunaga, David Yamasaki (Ananya), Mikel Yamasaki, Victoria Chang, Zachary Chang, and Kari Lau; nephews, nieces, grand nephews, and grand niece. Visitation from 9:30am to 12:30pm on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Nuuanu Memorial Park, Chapel of Flowers. Taoist services will be held. Burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, Kaneohe at 1:00pm. Mom will be truly missed by all. We are blessed to have had her in our lives.

Family kindly requests that face masks be worn.
