Douglas graduated from St. Louis College on Oahu in 1953. He continued his education in Burbank at CAL Aero Tech and graduated in 1955. Subsequently, he was hired by Lockheed Aircraft Company in Southern California then transferred to Oahu, where after 10 years, Lockheed closed their operations in Hawaii. He went on to work for Hawaiian Airlines as an electronic electrical technician and retired 33 years later.
Douglas has (5) children, Diane Rodriguez (Jake Rodriguez), Dawna Lawler, Elaine Calistro (deceased), David Calistro & Michael Calistro. He has (5) grandchildren, Anthony, Lindsay, Katherine, Douglas, Mylee and (6) great grandchildren.
Douglas met Mona Lou (deceased), his third wife, on the Big Island and together with his four legged child "Peanut" they moved from Kailua to Waialua on the North Shore. They were very involved in their community and volunteered for everything from the Outdoor Circle to the fundraising for the Waialua Public Library. They enjoyed the arts so much that they got involved in making the sets and costumes for the local talents. Throughout the years, they took advantage of his Hawaiian Airlines travel benefits and traveled to many places throughout the country, they especially enjoyed cruising.
At 88 years of age, he kept busy around his home making improvements, perfecting his oasis and making furniture from koa wood. Douglas had a very close relationship with his children and sisters, enjoying their time, celebrating milestones, momentous occasions and everything else in between.
Dad, we will truly miss your love, your laughter and your smile. Rest In Peace
