Born in May 1943 in Manoa, he graduated Roosevelt '61. A true believer in education, Mel attended UH; Masters from both Virginia Polytech and GWU; a Doctorate from University of Phoenix; and taught.
He held many government roles from Vietnam Vet, Army Reservist, City Hall staffer, and DoD civilian abroad (Thailand, South Korea, & Japan) as well as DC, Pearl Harbor, Fort Shafter, & Kauai.
His interests included Japanese culture, bon dance, and reading. He enjoyed local restaurants, green onions, shoyu, and hot sauce.
He is survived by daughter, Maryanne; siblings: Lillian, Michael, and Darlene; and many family and friends.
