She was married to Donald Lau for nearly 52 years until his passing in 2002. Together they acquired a small mom and pop meat market/grocery store in Kalihi and built it to what became Palama Meat Co. / May's Meats - Hawaii. After selling the meat company in 1997, they went on to create May's Wonder Gardens - Hawaii, a commercial hydroponics lettuce operation in Haleiwa. She finally retired in 2012 and moved from the Manoa family home of 56 years to the Kahala Nui Senior Living Community in 2014.
She is survived by son Duane (Lori); daughter, Donamay (Rennie) Guinasso; six grandchildren Daron Lau, DeAnna (Galen) Kan, Dylan (Henry) Rogers, Darien Lau, David and Douglas Guinasso; and six great-grandchildren, Daxton Lau, Gabriette, Daviette, and Garath Kan, and Lily and Riley Rogers.
