Rebecca “Becky” Kahihilani Sterling Kala
Passed away surrounded by family and soft Hawaiian music in Kailua, O'ahu, on the evening of November 27, 2022. As the youngest of four children born to Wayne Stacy Paoa Sterling and Helen Kahihilani Pa'akonia Sterling, she never lacked for playmates among her Paoa and Wise ohana. Becky graduated from Kailua High School in 1968 and went on to meet her husband, Leonard "Boy" Kala. They moved to Kona to be with family and lived in Honaunau before settling at Donkey Mill road. Becky held a variety of jobs over the years, including the Kona Village Resort, Jewel Palace, and the King Kamehameha Hotel. She enjoyed scotch, speaking her mind, and spending time with friends, family, and her animals.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers Leon Alfred Paoa Sterling and Wayne Ho'olae Sterling.
She is survived by her daughter: Angienette Kea Kala. Son-in-law: Damien Kaimana Barcarse, sister: Marion Ka'ainahuna Salazar, sisters-in-law Paula and Donna Sterling, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her peeps of Donkey Mill Road.
A celebration of life will be held on December 28, 2022, at O'ahu Cemetery Memorial Chapel at 10 am. In remembrance of Becky and her efforts to help others, donations can be made to organizations that touch your heart.
