Ivanelle Ku`uleialoha Choy
94 of Honolulu, passed away on August 30, 2022. She was born in Kahului, Maui to William and Gladys Mountcastle in 1928, and raised in Kahului. She attended Kaunoa School, Punahou School and The University of Hawai`i at Manoa, graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Ivanelle married Rudy Choy in Occupied Japan during the Korean war and lived in Texas and California before returning to Honolulu. A longtime realtor, she also taught Hawaiian Studies at Aina Haina and Kahala Elementary Schools and was a longtime student of the Hawaiian Studies Program at the University of Hawai`i. Ivanelle paddled, and was competitive in swimming, basketball, and volleyball. She was a gifted hula dancer, lifelong tennis player and longtime member of the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club and the Outrigger Canoe Club. Ivanelle is survived by children Robin Choy and Barry Choy of Honolulu, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her Celebration of Life will be Monday, January 2, 2023, at The Outrigger Canoe Club. Visitation: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service. No Flowers, please. RSVP to barrychoy@gmail.com.
