Admiral Richard C. Macke
Admiral Richard C. MackeAdmiral Richard C Macke (USN Ret), passed away at his home in Honolulu on December 7, 2022 surrounded by family at the age of 84. Adm. Macke was a 1960 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a designated Naval Aviator flying A-4s, A-7s, and F/A-18s. He commanded at every level from Commander to Admiral until his retirement in January 1996.

After retirement, Dick became increasingly involved with AFCEA and Navy League. He served as the President of the Hawaii Chapter of AFCEA, creating a scholarship program and was elected to the AFCEA International Executive Committee and the Nominations and Governance Committees. For Navy League, Macke was the National Director and President of the Honolulu Chapter and published the annual Maritime Strategy document.

Beyond his long and illustrious career, he enjoyed travelling the world meeting people and pursuing his great passion of golf. Dick relished his time on the links and played some of the most famous courses around the world. In 1996, he met his match in his wife, Susie, marrying on the 16th Hole at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course (MCBH) and, together, they spent many happy days chasing the hole-in-one (at his time of death, they were tied at 3 each).

Adm Macke is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susie Macke, his four daughters: Susan Miller (Gene), Cheryl Sanders, Belinda Hollick (Luke), and Melissa Fuller (Dale); one stepson, Chris Nagato (Crystal); six grandchildren (Aaron, Ryan, Levi, Samantha, Sydney, and Jesse) and one great-grandson on the way.

Services will be held at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on Thursday February 9, 2023 at 1pm.
