FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

George Takeshi Iwahiro
George Takeshi IwahiroOn January 5, 2023, the world lost an extremely kind and special man. George T. Iwahiro was 85 years old when he entered heaven. George grew up in Manoa and graduated from University High School. He ventured to Indiana and earned a BS in Engineering from Purdue University. Upon returning to Hawai'i, he began working at Hawaiian Electric Company. George spent his career with Hawaiian Electric and retired after working there for over 35 years. He made a lot of good friends while at Hawaiian Electric and continued to see them after retiring. People often think of retirement as a time to relax, but George was just as busy after retirement, serving on committees and boards for a variety of organizations. George's life was one of service. His greatest joy was serving Jesus and his church, and he was always happy to lend a helping hand and serve others in any capacity, including taking mission trips for disaster relief.George and Shirley loved being grandparents and made frequent trips to spend time with their five grandchildren in Oregon and California. They made it a point to be there while the children were young and "Gram and Papa" created lasting memories with the children. George and Shirley were married just shy of 50 years before she went to be with her Lord.George continued serving and spending time with children and grandchildren. In 2014, he married Charlene Kanemori and they enjoyed traveling (including a long-overdue trip to Japan and an interisland cruise), hosting foreign exchange students, and getting together with family and friends. George is survived by his wife, Charlene, two sons, Marc (Charlene) and Eric (Jina), daughter, Sheryl Kahue (Michael), five grandchildren (Amanda, Macinn, Aaron, Kiana, and Isaac), brother (Edward), and nieces and nephews.George's Celebration of LIfe will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm with services to follow at 2:00 pm. His inurnment will be on Monday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).
