Rev. John B. Connell
Rev. John B. ConnellJohn was born in Waukegan, Illinois on July 23, 1930. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawai'i. He received a B.A. in speech from UH and became the PR director for HGEA. Amongst other things, he was a disc jockey, an elected member of the State Board of Education, and the Executive Director of CILO. In 1985, he graduated from seminary (CDSP) and served as the vicar of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Ewa Beach where he remained until retirement. He then served as interim clergy at various other Episcopal churches throughout the islands. He was also an active member of various Masonic organizations and was a Past Master of Ko'olau Lodge and Past Grand Commander of the Knights Templar of Hawai'i. He is survived by his wife Carol; sons: John (Karen), Seth (Colleen), and Kelly (Jennifer); daughter Cynthia Mueller (Larry); 3 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 2 great granddaughters; his sister Norma, as well as many other hanai family members. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Andrew's Cathedral. Masonic service at 9am followed by the Episcopal service at 10am. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, the Knights Templar Eye Foundation or the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii Continuing Education fund.
