Juvenal Gabriel Coito Jr.
Juvenal Gabriel Coito Jr."Juvie", 74, of Honolulu, passed away on April 11, 2023. He was born on April 26, 1948, to Juvenal G. Coito Sr. and Mildred Andrea Garcia. He is the second child of 6 children and was the patriarch of the Coito 'ohana. Juvie attended Damien Memorial School and was in the first graduating class of '66, followed by his graduation from the University of Hawai'i, Class of '72. During his high school years, he achieved the highest award of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America Troop 222. He worked in construction before joining the Honolulu Fire Department in '75 and retired as Captain from Station 23 (Wailupe) in '07. He was an avid paddler throughout his life and paddled with many different canoe clubs over the years. He paddled in the Moloka'i Hoe Canoe Race over 30 times and won many medals and awards. In the last few years, he had a newfound passion of playing golf with his wife of 35 years. He was a member of the Outrigger Canoe Club, Waialae Country Club, and a devoted member of Holy Trinity Church. He is survived by his wife Christy; daughters Marissa, & Meleana, Moani Browne, and Kiana (Keoni) Abaya; grandchildren Jonah Henry, Kiele, & Kelia Abaya. Siblings Michelle (Pastor dec.) Tuzon, Michael (Doree), Jon (Vi), Maurya, Jay (Kamaile); and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 11 am on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Holy Trinity Church. The service will begin at 12:15 pm, with mass to follow at 1 pm. A paddle out for Juvie will take place at noon on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Maunalua Bay.
