ALAN GAY BONG KIM
ALAN GAY BONG KIMAlan Gay Bong Kim of Honolulu (83), beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather died on April 12, 2023. Alan is survived by his wife, Lorelei Kim, children: Amber (Mark Caldeira) Kim-Caldeira, Alan Jr, Adam (Theresa) Kim, April (Jeffrey) Oshiro, and Lauren (Chase Kurokawa) Kim; sister, Janetta L. (Gilbert) Nakasone, 9 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born in 1939 to Peter and Rebecca L. Kim, Alan is predeceased by his brother, Eugene S. (Chong Soo) Kim.

A prominent businessman, Alan was an independent insurance agent for 59 years; first with American Mutual and later with Mutual Underwriters. With the utmost professionalism and care, Alan loyally serviced his clients (many of whom became true friends) until his death. Retirement always seemed delayed given his commitment and responsibility to his clients who entrusted him with their insurance needs.

Alan attended Waipahu HS and UH Manoa. In his industrious youth, Alan worked at Watanabe Service Station and became part owner of Watanabe & Kim. Later, he ran a Shell service station franchise. Alan operated and owned Wai'anae Health Food Store while working with American Mutual. An esteemed citizen of Wai'anae, Alan was treasurer for Wai'anae Businessmen's Golf Club and was a member of Wai'anae Jaycees and Lions Club. Alan pridefully served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Alan is remembered for his love for his family, playful spirit, sincere joy to see people, and his willingness to give to and do for others.

Services will be held at Nu'uanu Memorial Park and Mortuary on May 12, 2023 at 10am with visitation at 9am. Private inurnment to follow.
