DONALD CHEW HOI TOM A.K.A. KALEO AND MR. TOM
DONALD CHEW HOI TOM A.K.A. KALEO AND MR. TOMDonald was born on March 21, 1938 to Beatrice and Edwin Tom of Tom's Grocery in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii and went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2023 at the age of 84 from pneumonia. He graduated from Leilehua High School in 1956 and participated as a Baton Twirler of the Majorette Corps. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force from 1956-62 and honorably discharged. While serving in the Air Force, he was a Supply service member and entered several Talent Contests for the Air Force. After his service, he attended Cosmetology schools in Wisconsin and Michigan. Upon return to Hawaii, he became a Master Stylist with Liberty House then Macy's. After many years, he established his own salon in Aina Haina , Waikiki, and Wahiawa.
He is survived by Family: Theodore C.K. "Tommy" (Lani), daughters Karen (Gary) Oyama and Carolyn (Bob) Davis with children Carson & Taylor; Douglas C.K. with children Deborah & Darren; Franklin (Deceased) C.C. (Shirley) sons-Gavin (Sarah), Evan and Cheryl (Dec. John) with Michelle (Dane) Robertson & children Hunter and Walker and son, Hunter. He also had 3 hanai sons, Deon (Mapuana), David, Darren Kela.
His partner is Clifford Smith, retired Professor University of Hawaii.
Don was loved by his family, friends, employees, co-workers and known for his stage performances of hula dancing, singing, playing of stringed instruments. He loved telling stories, making people smile, and encouraging others

There will be a CELEBRATION OF LIFE for Don on May 15, 2023 Monday at Mililani Memorial Park Mauka Chapel 9:30-11 a.m. Public visitation, 11 a.m. Christian Episcopal service, 12:00- 1:30 p.m. lunch in Dining Room. Inurnment will be at Diamond Head Memorial Park May 21, 2023 at 10 a.m.
