83, born on May 10, 1939 in Kapaa, Kauai, having lived most of his life on Oahu, beloved son, father, grand- father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, educator, martial artist, entomologist, foreign language lover, and endless dreamer, left his body at home on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Ontario, California to join the angels and his beloved wife, Norma Tsuneko, his parents, Kiichi and Ichiko, and brother, Gilbert Toshimi. Howard is survived by his brother, Owen; his children: Sabrina, Tad, Shereen, and Todd; his grandson, Daniel Mita; and all the students whose lives he touched in his 50+ years of teaching Japanese, science, and judo.
