53, of Makakilo, Oahu, passed away after an amazingly strong 18-month battle against cancer. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Christmas Day, 1963 to his loving parents Maggie and Danny Sarte. A Campbell Sabers '81 grad, he is dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by many. A proud United States Veteran, Doug served for 23 1/2 years in the United States Army. He honorably retired in 2005 with the rank of E8. To the soldiers he led, he was not only their leader, but also Uncle Doug. Always the hard worker even after retirement, he worked as vice president for Tokunaga Masonry up until his diagnosis. Some of Doug's motto's were "safety, safety, safety", and "if it's free its me!" Always known as the funny guy, he was quick with a smile, a kind word, calm under pressure, and generous. Of the many things he loved, his favorites were (and not in any order), playing bass in church, gambling, (Vegas was his 2nd favorite island), watching his baby girl dance hula, his grandkids, bowling, golfing, and beach play with his family. He is survived by his wife Diana, four children, Malu, Leilani (Parrish), Lorin, and Walter (Oriana). His Parents; Maggie and Danny Sarte. His siblings; Val (Clark), Bonny (Arlene), Mike (Tanya), Lenford, and Charles. Two beautiful grandchildren; Jailen and Mahealani. There are cherished nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and other relatives, all dear to him, but too countless to name. He considered every one of these along with his long list of friends a blessing. The funeral service will be held at Mililani Mortuary in the Mauka Chapel on June the 8th with reception and viewing starting at 5:30 p.m. Services start at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, June the 10th, from 11:00 a.m. to sunset at Pokai Bay Waianae, we invite you to continue to celebrate his life as his ashes are laid to rest with Military Honors at 2:30 p.m. We, the immediate family, wish to express our sincere thanks and heartfelt love to all those who supported us, and continue to support us, through our cancer and grief journey.
