Lt. Col. Robert J. Thomas,
USAF RETIRED 83 years old from Kaneohe passed away at Castle Medical Center on December 6, 2017 after a long illness. Born on October 6, 1934 in Western, Nebraska. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War doing two tours. He retired from Hickam AFB in 1979 after 25 years of service and chose to make his home in Hawaii. He worked for 25 years as a civilian for the DOD at Fort Shafter retiring at age 78 in December 2012. He held numerous jobs, he worked at Bank of Hawaii, and in San Francisco at Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America. He was a Mason and Shriner and was the Potentate for the Aloha Temple in Hawaii 2002. He was a member of the Body of the Scottish Rite, and Hawaiian Lodge. He also used to belong to Leeward Lodge, He did volunteer work with the Carole Kai Great Aloha Run as the chairman of the refreshments for the Military Sound of Freedom Runner at the end of the run. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Kitty) Yap Thomas, son Robert (Cheryl) Thomas, daughter Margaret Julie Thomas-Chun, stepson Conrad (Lauren) H. Hise; grandsons; Christopher Thomas, Randall J. Chun, Daniel Chun, Tyler Chun; granddaughters; Dr. Jennifer (Jason) Katada, Sabinne M. Matsumoto, Christine Hise; great grandson Jake Katada and great granddaughter June Katada along with numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by Lee M. Matsumoto; brothers; James (Margaret), August (Julia) and George Thomas. Memorial Services to be held on January 6, 2018 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 1611 Kewalo Street, #101, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822. Visitation 9:30 a.m. Services 10:30 a.m. Burial with full military honors on January 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaneohe Veterans Cemetery. Casual Attire.
